The Trial of the Man who said he was God
1976/1990

In 1976 Douglas Harding completed the first draft of a substantial book which he called On Being God. (It has some similarities with the short work with the same title that he wrote in the early 1960s and which the Shollond Trust published in 2023.) Then Harding edited this book slightly and renamed it Man versus God. It was not published. In 1990 he revised it drastically. The first title of this revision was The Great Blasphemy Trial. The final title was The Trial of the Man who said he was God. It was published by Arkana in 1992. These two versions, the 1976 version(s) and the 1990 version, are significantly different from one another. Each is superb in its own right and reflects Harding at different stages in his life. We have uploaded a few pages of On Being God, a few pages of Man versus God, and a few pages of The Great Blasphemy Trial so that you can get a sense of how the work evolved. We will be publishing the whole of the original version––Man versus God––in paperback in due course.
