Card-H-49-12. Reading Hocking.
DH: All love is vertical and only seems to be lateral. You and the loved one unite in your common super-self. You cannot love each other laterally really. The unity of an Army lies in its common will to win. Your love for men is love for them as standing for things you stand for, as having common objects with you. The worth of any man lies not in himself but in his horizon.
Card-H-49-14. Reading Hocking: Human Nature
DH: “Your idea is ‘infinite’ because it is a necessary contribution to God’s infinite mind, & every other mind so far as it is complete, needs your view. It is your sacred trust & duty to find & be true to this view of yours. It is your excuse for living, being. It is you, the essential meaning of your existence.”

DH: “This is our goal -- union of our wills with the Will-of -the World. Nothing less satisfies our will for power — which H [Hocking] says is the source of & resultant of all subsidiary instincts. What a staggering claim! A man to be fully & truly a man unites himself with the will of the world.”
